Biography


Emory James Edwards is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Irvine pursuing a degree in Informatics. Their current work focuses on image accessibility and the ways image descriptions and alt text get made in different communities and organizations. Emory has worked with companies such as Google, Intel, and Microsoft on integrating the voices of disabled people as users and consumers of technology. Their accessibility research has particularly focused on the representation of disabled people in media and design. As a trans scholar, Emory brings a personal passion to inclusion of marginalized identities in day-to-day considerations.
