Biography
Steven E. Gordon is an expert on the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”). After 32 plus
years of Federal Government service, Mr. Gordon is working on the next chapter of his
professional life, which includes providing consultation services to those with rights and/or
responsibilities under the ADA. Mr. Gordon previously served as the Civil Rights Enforcement
Coordinator for the US Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Virginia. He established and
was the driving force behind that office’s District-wide Civil Rights Enforcement Program. Mr.
Gordon pursued civil rights enforcement cases that focused on ADA enforcement, including
numerous cases involving the ADA’s effective communication requirements in healthcare
settings. He also engaged in extensive community engagement that was designed to increase
ADA compliance, including supporting the creation of a Virginia-based Peer Group for personnel
with ADA responsibilities in Healthcare Settings. Mr. Gordon has made numerous presentations
on the ADA to many leading conferences and organizations, including the National ADA
Symposium, the Jacobus tenBroek Disability Law Symposium, the American Health Law
Association, several of the regional ADA Centers, the National Association of the Deaf, and the
Virginia Department of Medical Assistance Services (Medicaid Agency). Mr. Gordon has
received recognition for his advocacy, including from The Alexandria Commission for
Disabilities, The Arc of Loudoun and Here2Hear. Mr. Gordon earned his BA from Brandeis
University and his JD from Northeastern University School of Law.
