Biography
Bradley Duerstock is a professor of practice in industrial engineering and biomedical engineering at Purdue University. Duerstock and his research team explore innovative approaches that better integrate engineering strategies or enabling technologies to improve the human condition, particularly those with chronic functional loss.
Major research interests include the development of medical devices and assistive technologies for persons with chronic disabilities, multimodal human-technology interaction, and accessible design of educational and workspaces, transportation, and housing. Major outcomes are to grant individuals greater independence, productivity, and well-being.
Ongoing research projects include the Institute for Accessible Science (IAS), Efficient, Accessible, and Safe Interaction in a Real Integrated Design Environment for Riders with disabilities (EASI RIDER) project, and Center for Inclusive Design (CID). Through these programs Duerstock and his team are able to engage with companies, communities, government agencies, and other institutions to promote greater inclusion of persons with disabilities.
