Bev Vaughn is the Cofounder and Executive Director of the American Association of Adapted Sports Programs, a non-profit organization with the mission to develop and support a standardized structure for school-based athletic competition to improve the well being of students with physical disabilities. AAASP works with member school districts and state high school associations to enable and facilitate statewide interscholastic adapted sports programs while influencing total student development. Vaughn has a 30-year career as an educator, and therapist in the field of therapeutic recreation and disability sports and has directed programs at such institutions as Emory University Hospital, Denver Children's Hospital and DeKalb County School District where she created and developed the Adapted Sports model for replication. Vaughn instituted academic standards for student athletes, training of coaches, and designed a cross-disability sports model based on existing adult disability sports, to include standardized rules for competition while eliminating barriers to participation. Vaughn has established inclusive policies and procedures with local and state agencies to ensure equitable school athletic participation for all students with physical disabilities.
